USS San Francisco Cruiser CA-38 The second ship of the Newer class cruiser, the San Francisco, was launched in 1933 and served in February 1934. In October 1941, she was refitted in Pearl Harbor. When the November 7th attack on Pearl Harbor, she was still in the process of modification, unable to move and had no air defense weapons. After a hasty refit, the San Francisco team joined the special mixed team and rushed to Wake Island to make a clearance, but failed to arrive before the island fell into the enemy. In August 1942, she provided cover for the aircraft carrier in the battle for melon. On November 3 of the same year, her formation encountered an advantage in the formation of the Japanese army: she suffered heavy losses during the battle and lost 83 sailors. She retired in 1947. The San Francisco was awarded 17 Medal Stars and became the second-largest warship in the history of the US Navy.åÊ
