åÊåÊ åÊåÊThe Veneto-class battleship is the most powerful warship built in Italy and the first Italian ship with a single ship displacement of 35,000 tons.åÊAlthough the Treaty of Washington stipulated that Italy allowed 182,800 gross tons of battleships (including 70,000 tons before 1932), it took more than a decade for Italy to start construction of new ships for various reasons.
åÊ åÊ åÊ åÊåÊLitorio officially joined the Italian Navy battle sequence on June 24, 1940. She was incorporated into the first detachment of the port of Taranto and became the flagship of [Carlo Bergamini].åÊIn November 1940, the Litorio was hit hard by the attack of the British glory aircraft carrier in Taranto.åÊReturned to active service in March 1941.åÊOn December 17, 1941, he participated in the first sea battle in the Sirte Bay.åÊOn March 21, 1942, the second battle of the Sirte Bay, the 381mm �ää main gun cannon ignited a Ro.43 aircraft on the stern catapult.åÊThe British found that after the fire of the "Litorio" ship, they mistakenly thought that they were hit by their own torpedoes.åÊOn June 15, 1942, Litorio was hit by a bomb bombed by a US B-24 bomber at high altitude.åÊThat night, the British "Wellington" bomber taking off from Malta attacked the returning Litorio.åÊRepaired on August 27.åÊHowever, due to severe oil shortage, Litorio never sailed again.åÊOn November 13, it was transferred to Naples and returned to Taranto on December 4 for use as a heavy-duty air defense platform.
