After the First World War, the large warships used by the German Navy to replace the old warships were limited to a displacement of less than 10,000 tons and a caliber of less than 280 mm. The Admiral Graf Spee was built to cost 82,000,000 Empire Marks, and a large number of arc welding techniques were used instead of riveting technology to greatly reduce weight. Admiral Graf Spee was launched in 1934. She and her sister ships, the Germans and the Admiral Sher, were called the British battleship by the British. She is also considered to be one of the most famous warships in Germany. After her sunken year, her sister ship was reclassified as a heavy cruiser.
