The MD 500 Defender in service with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is a highly agile, lightweight multi-role military helicopter nicknamed the "Lahatut" (Hebrew for "Slight of Hand" or "Trick"). Acquired by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) after the Yom Kippur War as a cost-effective alternative to heavier attack platforms like the AH-1 Cobra, the Lahatut provided unmatched nimbleness and a tiny silhouette that made it incredibly difficult to detect or target.
