History

Despite accumulating extensive experience in aircraft manufacturing during World War II, the Lancashire-based English Electric Company had not previously designed their own planes. Thus, when they joined the competition to create a successor to the renowned de Havilland Mosquito, few anticipated their success. By assembling a youthful and skilled design team, they developed what became one of the most important aircraft in British aviation: a twin jet-powered bomber, crafted for speed with an aerodynamic design.

The aircraft's potential was evident from the outset, impressing the Air Ministry enough to order 132 units in advance, confident that this new jet would give the Royal Air Force a technological upper hand. When the first B.2 model was deployed with No.101 Squadron in early 1951, it was unmatched by most fighters of the time, establishing the RAF's reputation with an exceptional aircraft admired globally.
