The UH-1Y Venom is a modernized and refurbished UH-1N Twin Huey that has been aging for 30 years since its first flight. Salt damage counter measures, new optical sensors, two T700-GE401C engines and more have been added, and its speed and installation capacity have also increased compared to the UH-1N. The Venom made its maiden flight in December 2001, but its deployment was delayed until 2009 due to design changes to the AH-1Z, which uses many of the same components.
