The 8th Tactical Combat Wing, commonly known as "Wolfpack," was deployed at the Ubon base in Thailand, which was the U.S. Air Force's front line base in Vietnam from December 1965, at the beginning of the Vietnam War. On January 2, 1967, Operation Boro was deployed to eliminate MiG fighters that posed a threat in the so-called "North Bomb," and seven new MiG21 fighters, which had just been paid by the Soviet Union from the fall of the previous year, were deployed for one day, but were shot down. The F-4C under the command of the Wolfpack shot down a total of 22 MiG fighters before switching to the D type.
