While the situation in the Middle East continued to be unstable due to the establishment of the State of Israel after World War II, Israel, which had been unable to receive arms support from France since the Third Middle East War in 1967, announced support from the United States, and 122 F4-E aircraft were sent. In 1973, the Yom Kippur War broke out, and in the early stages of the war, the Israeli Army was overwhelmed by the Arab coalition, but the F-4E, named Kurnas (Hebrew for "hammer"), was able to engage in and contribute to the counteroffensive of ground troops. In this war, the F-4E achieved a record of shooting down 85 aircraft.
