The F-4J featured enhanced radar, main landing gear structure, and engine compared to the F-4B, the first mass-produced F-4. Its first flight was in May 1966, and deployment began in December of that year. 522 aircraft were produced by December 1972. It participated in the Vietnam War in 1968, producing many MiG killers (MiG fighter shootdown record aircraft). The decals include markings for two MiG killers from VF-114 (114th Fighter Squadron) "Aardvarks" aboard the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, as well as one from VF-21 (21st Fighter Squadron) "Freelancers" aboard the aircraft carrier Ranger, which flew F-4Js from 1968 to 1979!
