Built in May 1950 for Pennsylvania, these 40’ boxcars belonged to class X43B and featured Superior doors. They were rebuilt in the late 1960s and continued in service through the 1970s before being replaced by larger capacity 50’ cars. Pennsylvania was a large Class 1 railroad formed in 1846 and grew to be a predominant shipper on the east coast until 1968 when it merged with rival New York Central to form Penn Central.
