This model kit recreates the F-14B Tomcat with a shipboard towing tractor. The kit signifies Tamiya’s completion of the 1/48 scale F-14 Tomcat series! The F-14B kit includes newly designed shipboard towing tractor and handling crew figures! The kit also includes various kinds of ordnance and accessories such as wheel chocks, towbars and tiedown chains, as well as a flight deck sheet for diorama creations!
About F-14B and Shipboard Towing Tractor
Known for its variable-sweep wing and superior ordnance systems, the F-14 Tomcat was developed as the U.S. Navy’s carrier fighter in the late 1960s and one of its key aircraft for over 30 years until it was retired in 2006. The F-14B can be said to have seen the first major upgrades to the aircraft, including new engines. The F110-GE-400 turbo fan engine provided up to 50% greater thrust. Shipboard towing tractors are unsung heroes of life on board a carrier, handling aircraft like the F-14. They have a tight turning circle and can skim underneath the wings of aircraft on deck, and pintle hooks front and rear let you hook them up and pull the 30-ton F-14 via a towbar. At the rear is either the MSU-200NAV mobile air start unit for starting aircraft engines, or a 1-ton counterweight that helps give the necessary traction to pull heavy vehicles.
FEATURES:
• 1/48 scale plastic model assembly kit. Fuselage length: 398mm, wingspan: 408mm (wings swept forward).
• The kit realistically depicts F-14B features such as head-up display, instrument and side console panels.
• Moving variable-sweep wing.
• Features realistic depictions of F110-GE-400 engine front fan and nozzles, sensor pod with AN/AXX-1 TCS camera, and AN/ALQ-126 ECM antenna under the wing glove.
• The ladder on the left side of nose is depicted half-open.
• Nose landing gear angle can be adjusted thanks to new upper and lower parts.
• Comes with decals to depict 3 marking options (VF-102 "Diamondbacks" CAG Bird, VF-103 "Jolly Rogers" Commanding Officer's Aircraft and VF-143 "Pukin' Dogs" CAG Bird.).
About the Model (Shipboard Towing Tractor)
• 1/48 scale plastic model assembly kit. Tractor length: 98mm (with air start unit), width: 37mm.
• Connect it to the F-14B by towbar to recreate a towing scene.
• Tractor front wheels can be depicted straight or turning. They are interchangeable even after assembly, and rear wheels feature double tires.
• Air hoses are realistically depicted.
• Remove the driver figure to switch the magnet-attached seat when rendering the parked version.
• The MSU-200NAV mobile air start unit is also depicted and can be attached or removed thanks to the attachment by poly caps.
• When not attaching the MSU-200NAV mobile air start unit, rear weight can be attached.
Other features
• Includes four new figures; one tractor driver figure, two handling crew figures and one plane captain (brake rider) figure.
• Parts for wheel chocks, ALBAR towbars and tiedown chains are included.
• Includes various kinds of ordnance: AIM-9L/M Sidewinder x2, AIM-7M Sparrow x2, GBU-12 Paveway II x4, GBU-16 Paveway II x4, Mk.52 500lb low-drag general-purpose bomb x4, etc.
