Yamashita Hobby 1/700 Japanese Destroyer Destroyer Satsuki 1943 NV16
Yamashita Hobby 1/700 Japanese Destroyer Destroyer Satsuki 1943 NV16

Plastic model kit, assembly required.  Glue, paint and finishing supplies not included.

Based on the concept of strengthening the anti-aircraft armament of the Mutsuki-class destroyer and making it a high-speed transport ship, one of the Mutsuki-class destroyers, the Satsuki, was equipped with 25mm machine guns. The content of the expansion was to remove one main gun (the other ships lowered half of the guns, and lowered one of the two torpedo tubes). While the anti-aircraft armament was strengthened, Satsuki only removed one main gun at the rear, maintaining her familiar silhouette. In addition, two 25mm triple machine guns were installed in the part where the rear gun room was removed, and two 25mm machine guns were installed on both sides of the bridge. The effect of this enhanced anti-aircraft armament would be to participate in battles between Japanese and American forces over islands in Guadalcanal and the South Pacific waters. Satsuki and Fumizuki were thought to be convoy escort ships and were attacked by about 40 U.S. carrier-based planes, but they repelled them and acted separately, indirectly helping the fleet
